Philips Universal Remote
I had already bought one of these for my 91 year old mum who has failing eyesight, so when my girlfriend's 100 year old mum bought a new TV I got her one too. It is a bit bigger than a normal modern remote, but more importantly it has larger than average, clear, well spaced out buttons which are colour coded. It is easy to set up and if you already have a Philips TV/VCR/DVD no set up is required at all.A great product for the price, particularly for those who don't see too well any more. Both of my ladies are delighted with the product!

Secondly, even if you recieve the Sky on the second TV you will face so many problems getting the remote to work you will end up buying a new one after smashing this off a wall!

Watchable but thats it
I bought this because its advertised as Sky instead of being 'Sky compatible'. First off, this is not a DIY job and I honestly dont know how they can even suggest it.Secondly, even if you recieve the Sky on the second TV you will face so many problems getting the remote to work you will end up buying a new one after smashing this off a wall!

Perfect replacement
You can quibble about how good (or not) the Sky+ remote is - but that's not the point. This is a proper Sky+ remote at a fraction of the cost of buying one in other shops, delivered quickly and doing the job. Excellent.6
Review for Philips SRU8008/00 Prestigo 8-in-1 Remote Control:
The on-screen controls are clear and short and it's well made. The only thing that I am having trouble with is the activities - but that's more me that the unit!
Totally recommended!

Review for Philips SRU8008/00 Prestigo 8-in-1 Remote Control:
Intuitive Device
I have bought a universal remote - that used codes - before and it was disappointing; but this is superb. I just popped some batteries in and without consulting the manual managed to control a TV, Satellite and home cinema and only had a tiny bit of trouble with my DVD player because the remote was broken - but it ended up working after doing a full search. The on-screen controls are clear and short and it's well made. The only thing that I am having trouble with is the activities - but that's more me that the unit!
Totally recommended!

Review for Philips Prestigo SRU9600 - 8 in 1 Universal Remote Control - With LCD Touch Display:
It has a combination of touch-sensitive and 'hard' buttons, and the touch screen is both responsive and visible (Pronto monochrome owners will know what I mean about visibility). TiVo owners will be pleased to know that they are catered for with the necessary 'thumbs up' and 'thumbs down' buttons that their kit requires.
I find the unit has good range, but is VERY heavy on batteries (a set of alkalines will last little more than 7-14 days, and it uses three at once). The layout of the 'soft' (touchscreen) buttons cannot be amended (though they can be reprogrammed) and so you may often end up with buttons 'on-screen' that do not correspond to your equipment. Previous reviewers' comments about the scroll wheel are valid - it has a tendency to skip back to a previous point which is very irritating over time. It is also rather long and the weight distribution is unven. It alows you to have extra functions for each screen, but only those chosen from those provided. Once again, TiVo owners will appreciate this, however.
Nonetheless, I do keep returning to this unit. It looks good, and provided you can live with severe battery use and relative inflexibility of the touch-screen buttons I can recommend it. Price may be a determining factor - DSG group (Currys etc.) often discount this to around £50-£60 so keep a look out...

Review for Philips Prestigo SRU9600 - 8 in 1 Universal Remote Control - With LCD Touch Display:
Good - but it is flawed.
I bought this remote last Christmas, having previously owned the 'usual suspects' (Philips Pronto, Pronto NEO, Marantz RC2000 and the dreadful One-For-All series).

Easy to use
Bought this for my elderly mother who kept pressing the wrong button on her very confusing remote control, resulting in her TV picture going haywire. This product solved the problem as the buttons available are change channels up or down and volume button. Very pleased with the purchase.9

Review for Philips SRU7140 - Universal remote control - infrared:
Slide:
Although it may look like a mobile phone, the slide function on this remote is a bit wobbly. This is entirely down to how the hinge is attached. It's sprung, and quite nice to move, but it does jiggle a bit when closed. Still it's a remote right? It certainly doesn't look like it'd break despite this, so it's not a big issue.
Batteries:
Yup - coin cells. Two included with it and fitted with a plastic pull tab to activate. I only mention the batteries as I had a power problem until I removed them and put them back in the remote. The power was fading out of the LED and this gave me the clue that things weren't right. Just rejigged them and its been fine since.
Setup:
Pretty easy but you do need to read the manual. The learning function isn't at all clear due to a *pre-training* step. The pre-training guides you to where the best position is for the remotes. Once done, STOP pressing the original remote. Once you've selected a feature in the SRU7140 tap the button on the original remote, don't hold it, otherwise you blow out the internal memory and it doesn't learn properly.
I learnt that gem through pain.
Button Layout:
Buttons are laid out quite logically although the cursor keys only cycle between two function sets. What do I mean? Well, some devices need THREE function sets. Sky+ for example needs a Play/FF/RW/Stop set, a cursor up/down/etc set and a coloured button set.
To solve this problem I have three different devices, but assign play/cursor to one device and cursor/coloured buttons to the other.
Essentially I have TV, DVD and Sky+ but scattered across four devices in the remote.
Summary:
A unique and small remote. A little fiddly to set-up just right, but worth it in the end.

Great Remote - some patiences needed to setup
This remote is packed in one of those annoying hard to open and easy to ruin blister packs. Once open you discover a neat and relatively clear remote control. It does have some quirks but overall is a great little thing.Slide:

Great Piece Of Kit
The buttons have a great 'positive' feel.I'm using it temporarily for Sky+ until I get the HD installed, so Trevor's codes for changing it to work on SKY+ came in very handy. (Worked first time)
I assume to convert it back to work on SKY HD will probably be as simple as leaving the batteries out for 10mins or so. This resets previous sky remotes, so I see no reason for it not to work on this one. anyway the remote comes with a helpline no. to Universal (Philips) so they would advise if there were any problems.
So, if you need this as a replacement or to use with multi-room, either for SKY+ or SKY+ HD I would highly recommend it.
Oh, and buy the way... the usual great price and quick delivery from Amazon.
