This is a basic phone and looks a bit bulky and unstylish, but it does the job. The range isn't that good as I can't use it upstairs, but for the price you pay, you can't expect too much from it I guess. It would be nice to buy a better and slimmer phone with a wider range, but for now this one will have to do.

2 warnings: no loudspeaker and ring tones are very quite

Personally i have not had any problems in terms of sound quality [even with the router next to the hub causing all sorts of interferance], in fact replacing my old BT phones i have noticed an improvement. However i do support the people saying that the headset speaker is not good, when theres a lot of noise you can bearly hear the other person - but why not just go into a different room and use the good range cover they have.

However the biggest issue i face with the phones is that in a big house like mine, it becomes very difficult to hear the phone when it is ringing [especially as the base/hub does not have a speaker, meaning if both phones are upstairs you will not hear a thing!]. I recommend you either buy 3 handsets or choose a louder pair. Also they dont have loudspeaker, which can be a pain when your having to be on hold with companies for years on end.

They took my son a few mintues to setup and look very nice, so overall very good for £[]

Too soft!

Philips CD1552B/05 review

Easy to set up, have not experienced any problems with volume of earpierce mentioned on some other reviews. Answerphone base unit flashes orange when you have a message which is a handy feature as it does not beep to tell you this. Overall it does OK.

Phillips XD sound is really tinny

I bought the Phillips SE6553B with XD sound because I was fed up with the sound quality on my existing phone...this is worse, far worse, its really tinny even if you switch off the XD sound option. The handsets themselves are a nice size and the cradle is fine etc but in short it's no good if you cant stand talking on the phone because of the sound quality.

not very good

We have had this about a year, and it has now totally died.

Transferring phones from the SIM is quite easy, however it is not so easy to sync the numbers between the handsets. In addition I never managed to get the SMS working with these phones. I am quite a technophile so this is some criticism.

I have had a series of DECT phones and they all seem to break after about a year. Maybe I am just unlucky.

One good thing is that the sound quality was fine, and the hands-free worked well.

Great phone a a brill price

Arrived very quickly, a nice looking phone very solid to the touch, doesn't feel cheap. I had it set up and working within 10 mins, took me a bit longer to register my old phone to it as an extra phone but that was my fault.
Phone book easy to use as is the answer machine, in fact I cannot find any thing bad to say about this phone.
And the price is right!

Miserable Product

I really feel I have to register my disatisfaction with Philips cordless telephone products having bought 2 in succession and been twice failed by their early poor performance. Both Duo sets died an early death which I don't think can amount to an unfortunate coincidence. In fact the most recent set I bought was very similar to this model but it was the Philips Duo Pack Model CD535 Duo. The only positive thing I can say about this telephone is that it has a presentable neutral design. It has failed me within 18 months but even prior to now the additional handset failed to charge on its separate plug in base in my bedroom. I wondered if I might perhaps have strained the base electrical connection but it was rarely moved and was never subject to beng tugged. I eventually gave up on it and resigned myself to managing with a single telephone base alternating the cordless handsets to keep them charged. Within the last 6 months both models have declined in performance and now cease to operate efficiently. The battery life is greatly reduced but even replacing the rechargable batteries has failed to make any difference. What is completely frustrating is that I can no longer receive calls unless I instantly snatch the phone immediately from the base charger once it rings -if I fail to do so immediately the telephone cuts out and the call is lost. I had other problems with a previous Philips product ( a different model) - also a pair of cordless telephones - but I assumed that its failure was a glitch. Now having twice suffered problems I feel unable to recommend a Philips telephone product to anyone. Neither set was inexpensive - I thought that I was paying for quality. In the future I will be much more atentive to customer reviews. Has anyone else encountered similar problems?

Doesn't always ring or retain caller's number

I like the design of these and the fact that you can see who's calling before picking up the 'phone. However I do have a few problems. There are occasions when the 'phone rings - I answer and there's no-one there but one of the other 'phones is still ringing. When I put the 'phone back on its base it rings again and there is someone there - same call! Other problems are that the 'phone doesn't always ring but the answerphone picks up a message! How can this be. When it does this there is no record of the caller's telephone number or name but the message can be heard. Other things I don't like are, as has been mentioned in other reviews; that you have to programme numbers into each telephone and, that they all flash new call and, again, you have to delete from each 'phone. Does anybody else have these problems? I can only assume that these 'phones were returned by people who were getting frustrated with them.

Excellent design, but with a few quirks

Excellent design, looks beautiful, easy installation, love the intercom facility but a few quirks in using the phone.

#Sometimes just goes into answering phone even when you pick up it. (well before the answer delay - max of 7 rings)
#Acts hung if you get a call whilst listening to the answering machine and drops the call.
#Collection of ring tones could be better.

For this kind of money you'd expect it to be flawless, bit disappointed.

Easy and clear phone

This phone is a great improvement on my old BT phone which although was only 2 years old was playing up. Quick and easy to set up and came with all connections and adapters required. Clear display and lots of options in the menu. Easy to set up different tones depending on the person calling so negates any arguments regards who it is for! The only reason i have dropped a star is that the ring tones are pretty bad - i cannot believe that Phillips actually think anyone wants a phone that sounds like that!

A Backward Step

Unfortunately, i had to return this item because one of the handsets wouldn't pair with the base station, so my review is based on only about a week's worth of use.

I can only compare it to a previous Phillips DECT phone that I was replacing (one of the handsets had started to act up after about 10 years), but I can honestly say that I much preferred the older one.

Point 1 - Range. I initially placed the base-station in the same location as the previous one. I had to move it to the middle of the house, as it was suffering from voice break-up in the more remote rooms.

Point 2 - Display. The display was nowhere near as clear as the older one.

Point 3 - Handset Volume. This is where the CD1553B/05 really let itself down. Even at the highest setting, the voice volume was far too quiet. Asking callers to repeat themselves became embarrassing after a while.

Nice Phone For the Price

The phone arrived this morning, even with free delivery, it arrived well before the estimate.

Firstly, if you want this phone, buy it here, I purchased the exact same phone from a mail order catalogue for £92.00!(It had to be returned because of a fault) I felt quite sick when I saw the price on Amazon!

It is easy to set up and I got it going within minutes. As a DECT phone it works well, but if you want fancy ringers, etc you might be disappointed. It has a phonebook feature caller display and a speaker phone. Even as just a DECT phone, it is well worth the money, in my opinion.

Where it comes into its own is the voip feature. Please remember it only works with Windows Live Messenger. If you use the voice feature of this program, then you will like this. Make sure you have WLM installed and the phone will pick it up. (I am using XP Home, I can't speak for other operating systems.) Once it is all set up, you can talk to your contacts, wherever you are. Even via the speakerphone. If you are away from the computer, it tells you if a contact comes online, via the screen and with optional sound too.

The only downside is that it doesn't work with other voip programs, but for £19.99, it is a minor quibble!

buffet sainte-marie cd

CD first couple of tracks are excellent, strong songs for which she is known for. Unfortunately the rest appear to be love songs, which are pleasant but a disapointment for us who like her original style

Pjilips DECT Colour Phone

Replacement for an earlier model which failed after many years use. This one has many more features and so far is working well. It is good value for money and I would recomend it.

Bad day at the office for Philips

You really should avoid this phone at all costs, everything was going ok until I actually tried to make a phone call. The reception was abysmal, I've had a few dect's so I know whats what really.It just aint good enough. I've a feeling Hughes Direct(who were excellent by the way) knew of this fault because THEY asked whether it was reception problem.
Anyway do yourself a favour and give this a miss, I've gone with panasonic again, cant go wrong.

Simple to use

Good value for money considering there are four phones. Not the best looking telephones in the world, but do the job and are simple to use.

Philips CD2453S/05 Trio DECT Telephone with Digital Answerphone

Worked fine for a while but stopped working (couldn't dial out or take calls) long before I would have expected & just out of guarantee. Not very impressed.

Disappointing

I chose this product as it was a replacement for my Philips phones which had lasted some years, and they are similar in design so thought would be easy to use. Phones arrived and set up, but less than 2 months later they are no longer working. I have tried to return them but after registering with the seller that the phones are faulty and need to be returned (about 3 weeks ago now) I have had no reply or further contact so feel I cannot recomment either the product or the seller.

Philipa XL dual phones

This two phone set was excellent value for money (I purchased it as a special sale price) and easy to set up - though you might have to fiddle around a bit if you have AOL Broadband coming off the main phone set.
The phone has many features including a change of ring tone and automatic pick up and caller ID (but you obviously have to contact your phone company to get that put on).
There have been a few occasions when people have said the phone has 'cut out' and they have not been able to hear me but that just seems to be an occasionaly glip and I am in a notoriously bad reception area for both landline and mobile phones.
